UWI, KNOX COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO SIGN MOU JULY 31

The University of the West Indies and Knox Community College will sign a Memorandum of Understanding to enable the College to deliver UWI’s Bachelor of Science (generic) Nursing (BScN) programme in the academic year 2006/2007 on Monday, July 31, 2006 at 10 a.m. at the office of the Director of the School of Continuing Studies at the UWI, Mona Campus.

Pro Vice Chancellor and Chair of the Board for Non-Campus Countries and Distance Education, UWI , Professor Lawrence Carrington and Mr. Caswell McLeish, Principal of Knox Community College will sign and formalise the Memorandum of Understanding.

The generic Bachelor of Science Nursing (BScN) programme was designed by the UWI School of Nursing (UWISON) (formerly the Department of Advanced Nursing Education) as part of its development plan and in keeping with regional and international trends. The programme, which is three calendar years (full-time) in duration, aims to prepare nurses at a baccalaureate level for beginning practice and to facilitate graduate education.

Knox Community College will be the third community college to deliver the programme which has already been franchised to the Brown’s Town Community College and the Excelsior Community College. The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will represent the formalisation of franchise agreement between UWI and Knox Community College.
