The University of the West Indies, Mona wishes to advise that the University Bookshop is mandated to sell textbooks and supporting material for the University’s courses.

Although the bookshop sells other reading material, this activity is totally dependent on its financial resources and the judgment of what are good sellers. This is a business decision.

>From time to time publishing houses including our UWI Press approach the bookshop and their representatives are aware that the UWI Bookshop will make selections from their catalogues.

Legitimate Resistance was not among the several selections totalling $54,000 made from the LMH Catalogue for the month of December 2006.

Therefore, the notion that there was banning or censorship by the UWI would be absurd. The University Bookshop is always willing to order books at the request of individual clients.
