Professor Lawrence Carrington, Director of the School of Continuing Studies (SCS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Luz Longsworth to the position of Deputy Director of the SCS, as of January 1, 2007. Mrs. Longsworth has been seconded to this position for one year from her substantive position as the Resident Tutor and Head of the University Centre in Belize. She has already taken up her new responsibilities from January 8, 2007 and reports directly to the Director.

Mrs. Longsworth has a long history of service with the University of the West Indies (UWI) before her 2004 appointment as Resident Tutor for Belize. She worked in the Office of the Principal as the Executive Assistant to the then Principal of the Mona Campus, Professor Gerald Lalor from 1992 to 1996. This was preceded by four years of service in the Faculty of Arts and General Studies as an Assistant Lecturer in Spanish from 1982-1986 and later as Assistant Registrar assigned to the Secretariat for another three years. After leaving Jamaica, Mrs. Longsworth worked in the Offshore Financial Sector in the British Virgin Islands and later taught at the University of Belize for several years before rejoining the University of the West Indies.

Mrs. Longsworth states that she is very pleased to have been appointed Deputy Director of the SCS, and looks forward to the challenges that lie ahead for the University in respect of its strategic vision for the next five years especially for the UWI-12 countries.

Mrs. Longsworth is a UWI graduate where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters in Business Administration. She also holds a Master of Arts from Queen’s University and will commence her doctoral studies in Business Administration (Higher Education Management) later this year.
