Sexual and Reproductive Health, Our Mutual Responsibility

“Sexual and Reproductive Health, Our Mutual Responsibility” is the theme for this year’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Conference organized by The Advanced Training and Research in Fertility Management Unit in the Faculty of Medical Science, University of the West Indies (UWI). The Conference runs from October 26-28 and begins with an official opening session at 6 pm in the Grand Caribbean Suite, The Knutsford Court Hotel in which Professor Nigel Harris, Vice Chancellor of UWI will give the address. The Minister of Health, the Honourable Horace Dalley will open the first scientific session on Technological Innovations in Fertility, on Friday, October 27 at 9 am. Later, there will also be a Conference Banquet in the Grand Caribbean Suite at 7 pm where the Honourable Kenny Anthony, Prime Minister of St. Lucia will be the guest speaker.

The Conference aims to provide a forum for presenting and discussing issues on sexual and reproductive health with a wide cross section of stakeholders. It will also present an opportunity for sharing of research findings on important aspects of Sexual and Reproductive Health, as well as provide information and updates on the innovations, policies and regulations in Sexual and Reproductive Health for individuals and organizations. The Conference will bring together health professionals and persons engaged in Sexual and Reproductive Health programmes from all sectors, Government, non governmental organizations (NGOs) and the Private Sector to share their experience, work and best practices to foster greater collaboration.

The Scientific Sessions provide a more pointed perspective on a wide range of issues through paper presentations by scholars who have done research in the area. A special forum is designed for youth addressing the topic Youth Lifestyles in Sexual and Reproductive Health. Other topics for the Scientific Sessions will include Ethics, Legal and Regulatory framework of Reproductive Health, Lifestyle Issues in Sexual and Reproductive Health; Clinical and Pathological Interventions and HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health. Research papers will be presented dealing with issues such as abortion, prostitution and sexual violence in schools will be presented by various presenters in these scientific sessions.
