The premier scholarly publishing house in the Caribbean, the University of the West Indies Press, and Jamaica’s largest book retailer and distributor, Kingston Bookshop Limited, created history recently when Kingston Bookshop became the exclusive distributor of UWI Press books in Jamaica.

Linda Speth, General Manager of UWI Press, explained “the partnership is part of a new strategic initiative of the Press, where we are changing several distribution arrangements to better serve the global needs of our customers. The Press’s new arrangements will make our books more competitive and accessible in the global marketplace.”

Effective October 1, 2007, Kingston Bookshop, which has been in operation for over thirty years, with eight island-wide outlets and a staff complement of over one hundred employees, will begin distributing UWI Press book. Steadman Fuller, Chief Executive Officer of Kingston Bookshop, believes “The Press’s product line and image is an excellent fit to their overall plan and looks forward to working with UWI Press in serving the Jamaican market.”

Linda Speth also announced that effective August 1, 2007, all customers in North America and in Caribbean countries other that Jamaica may purchase UWI Press books from Longleaf Services, Inc., in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA.
