The UWI School of Nursing, Mona, will host its Annual Nursing Midwifery Research Conference and Mary Seivwright Day from May 28-29, at the School’s Lecture Theatre, the Mary Seivwright Building, 9 Gibraltar Camp Way, UWI, Mona Campus.

Dr. Jean Yan, the Chief Scientist Nursing and Midwifery, WHO, Geneva, Switzerland and Coordinator, of the Health Professions Networks will give the keynote address at the conference. She will also officially launch the School as the PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Development in the Caribbean. In her current position, Dr Yan provides leadership and advice on the formulation of WHO policy on nursing and midwifery.

Dr. William McCool, a midwife for 25 years, is the Director of the Midwifery Graduate Programme, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Philadelphia. He will deliver the Distinguished Research Lecture on Mary Seivwright Day. Dr. McCool has a practice as a nurse-midwife at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.

Dr. Silvina Malvarez, Regional Adviser on Human Resources Development in Nursing and Allied Health Professionals – PAHO/WHO, Washington DC and WHO representative for the Regional Office of the Americas will be in attendance and lead an invitational forum for nursing and midwifery leaders.

The conference aims to empower nurses, midwives and students across the Caribbean region to use research to develop best practice in nursing and midwifery.
