A Fixed Exchange Rate for Jamaica?
Posted: June 09, 2009
The University of the West Indies, Mona in association with the Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CaPRI) will host a seminar titled “The Question of a Fixed Exchange Rate for Jamaica – An Answer from Theory and Practice” on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 9 a.m. at the Blue Room, Mona Visitors’ Lodge.
The seminar will be led by Dr. Damien King, UWI lecturer in The Department of Economics and Senior Research Fellow, CaPRI who will explore the question of whether the country should change its currency regime from the present system of a flexible or ‘floating’ one in which the exchange rate is determined by the demand for and supply of foreign currency, to some form of fixed exchange rate or ‘dollarization’.
Dr. King’s discussion will be informed by a study that CaPRI conducted on the options facing the country in this regard.
Interested persons are invited to attend.
