The Funeral Service for Vice Chancellor Emeritus Professor the Hon. Rex Nettleford will take place on Tuesday, February 16 at 10:00 a.m. in the University Chapel, Mona. Musical tributes by the University Singers and the Singers of the National Dance Theatre Company will be presented from 9:30 a.m. He will be accorded an official funeral by the Government of Jamaica.

The University of the West Indies advises members of the public who will be attending the funeral service for Professor the Hon. Rex Nettleford of the following traffic arrangements for persons entering the Mona Campus on Tuesday, February 16.

Vehicles with purple and blue stickers should enter the campus through the first entrance, that is, the Queens Way gate.  Vehicles with yellow and brown stickers should enter through the second entrance, that is the Post Office gate.  Vehicles with no stickers should enter through the University Hospital gate.  Members of staff with UWI stickers may enter through their usual point of entry.

Other activities have been planned to celebrate the life of Professor Nettleford.  They include: a “Nine Night” (Wake) on Thursday, February 11 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre and on Tuesday, February 16 in the afternoon business will be suspended in Parliament to accommodate tributes to him from members.

On Tuesday, February 16 in the evening the National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC) will pay their tribute to Professor Nettleford at the Little Theatre and on Thursday, February 25 the UWI, Mona will host an evening of tributes and cultural items to be held in the Oriental Gardens, starting at 5.30 p.m. Persons interested in delivering tributes should contact Mr. Brian Heap at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts in order that it may be scheduled on the programme.
