The University of the West Indies, Mona has named three students as valedictorians for the graduation ceremonies to be held on Friday, November 5, and on Saturday, November 6, 2010. They are Dakota Marshall, Alyssa Morgan and Altricia Dawson.

Ms. Dakota Marshall, will deliver the valedictory address at the ceremony for the Faculties of Humanities & Education and Law to take place on Friday, November 5, 2010, beginning at 5.30 p.m.

There will be two ceremonies on Saturday, November 6.  Ms Alyssa Morgan, will deliver the first valedictory address at the ceremony for the Faculties of Medical Sciences and Pure and Applied Sciences, beginning at 10.00 a.m.   The second ceremony for the day will take place at 5.30 p.m. when graduates of the Faculties of Social Sciences and Engineering will be presented. At that time, Ms Altricia Dawson will deliver the valedictory address on behalf of the graduating class.

Dakota Marshall

Dakota Marshall, holds the Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics with First Class Honours. She received the Faculty award for excellence in Linguistics in her first and second years of study and was also recipient of the Jamaica National Building Society Scholarship. She also participated keenly in co-curricular activities, serving as a member of the Debating Society and the Dramatic Arts Society, and participating in the annual dramatic arts presentation Tallawah in 2009.

Alyssa Morgan holds the Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science (Major) and Medical Physics and Bio-engineering (Minor), a programme which encourages a cross-disciplinary approach to Computer Science, incorporating elements of physics, electronics, medicine and biology.

While an undergraduate, she received numerous awards at the departmental and faculty levels including making the Dean’s List for her outstanding performance. Miss Morgan was also employed as a lab-technician in the department of Computer Science, responsible for fixing problems with the use of the computers but also for assisting students with the practical aspects of their courses. 

Altricia Dawson holds the degree of Bachelor of Science in Management Studies with First Class Honours from the Faculty of Social Sciences. While at The UWI, Mona she became deeply involved in all aspects of university life, participating in the UWI Quality Leadership Programme and the Mentorship Programme. A great part of her university life revolved around Mary Seacole Hall, where the emphasis was on volunteerism.

Such was her performance at both academic and co-curricular levels that she was inducted into the Social Sciences’ Honour Society as well as the Mary Seacole Hall Honour Society. She was also recipient of the Caribbean Cement Company Scholarship.

Miss Dawson was also member of the Third Year Experience programme which prepares students for life outside of the U.W.I.
