UWI, Mona and Business Community Partner in Annual Graduate Recruitment Programme to Provide Employment Opportunity

Final year students at The University of the West Indies, Mona will be a part of the three week long annual Graduate Recruitment programme starting on Monday, March 21. The programme is organized by the Office of Placement and Career Services, UWI, Mona. It provides an opportunity for students to have a “guaranteed interview” with potential employers while affording employers a convenient and cost effective means of recruiting from a highly qualified pool of applicants.

The Programme is a unique forum in which the participating companies are also able to share their company information, build their skills bank for future vacancies and recruit suitably qualified applicants for vacancies available immediately or within the next six months. These vacancies will also be advertised online using Job Link, a secure online job placement tool, where employers can post their vacancies and students can access the range of employment opportunities available to them.

The Graduate Recruitment Programme is the culmination of the Career Awareness Series hosted by UWI, Mona.  The Series is designed to assist in preparing UWI students to enter into the working world and included: a Career Expo, Mock Interviews, and World of Work (WOW) seminars which address several topics such as Dressing Appropriately and Workplace Ethics, Entrepreneurship, Interviewing and Resuming Writing.

The Office of Placement and Career Services also has a slate of innovative offerings aimed at preparing work ready students and encouraging entrepreneurship. One such programme is the Job Shadowing Experience Programme (JSEP) aimed at providing final year students with firsthand workplace experience in a field of interest to them, where they may observe and interact with professionals in their chosen area. Another such offering is the System for Interactive Guidance & Information (SIGI³) which is a computerized career counselling information package designed to help students decide what employment areas would best suit them depending on their interests, values, skills and abilities.

Information on the Programme is available through the Office of Placement and Career Services, UWI, Mona. Employers are invited to be a part of the Graduate Recruitment programme during the period.
