UWI Professor Receives 2011 CARICOM Science Award

Dean of the Faculty of Pure & Applied Sciences at The University of the West Indies, Mona, Professor Ishenkumba Kahwa, has been awarded the prestigious 2011 CARICOM Science Award, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of science nationally and throughout the region.
 
The award was presented to Professor Kahwa at a ceremony held recently at the Grafton Beach Resort in Tobago.
 
The CARICOM Science Award is a joint effort between CARISCIENCE and the CARICOM Secretariat and is meant to give recognition and visibility to outstanding scientific achievements made by individuals from the CARICOM countries.  Selection of awardees is carried out by a jury of internationally renowned scientists and overseen by a Board comprising representatives of CARICOM, CARISCIENCE and CMMB.
 
Past awardees include Dr. Raymond Wright (Jamaica), Prof. Harold Ramkissoon (Trinidad), Prof. Sean Mc Dowell (Barbados) and Professor Lincoln Hall (Trinidad & Tobago).
