The University of the West Indies, Mona will play host to Prince Henry of Wales, popularly known as Prince Harry, on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, as part of a visit to Jamaica to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee  - the 60th year since her coronation as Queen of England. 
 
Prince Harry’s visit to Jamaica is one of three visits to Commonwealth countries in the Caribbean. The other two stops are in Belize and The Bahamas. This is the first time that Prince Harry will be on an official duty on behalf of The Queen. It is also his first time in the Caribbean.
 
While at Mona, Prince Harry will visit the UWI, Mona Bowl for Sporting Excellence where he is expected to meet with Jamaica’s elite athletes who will be a part of the lineup for this year’s Olympics being held in the UK later this year. Among the athletes expected to meet with Prince Harry is Hon. Usain Bolt, Olympic triple medalist whose training ground is the UWI, Mona Bowl. UWI athletes, Hansle Parchment and Jason Young as well as student athletes from neighbouring schools are also expected to meet with the Prince.
 
Prince Harry is also expected to tour the newly established UWI, Mona Faculty of Law, and sit in on a mock moot court session with students in the Faculty.  Prince Harry will also unveil a plaque there in honour of his grandmother’s Diamond Jubilee. The Queen holds the title “Visitor” of the university. The position of Visitor is considered to be the most senior official of the UWI.
 
 A captain in the Army Air Corps, the Prince holds two honorary military appointments in the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force. While Prince Harry’s full time role is as a serving member of the military, he is the patron of a number of charities related to children. The Prince’s military function and his interest in children are reflected in places that he will visit in Jamaica.
 
Prince Harry will arrive at the Norman Manley International Airport at 5:00 p.m. on March 5, where he will be accorded a 21-gun Royal salute and will inspect a Guard of Honour furnished by the First Battalion The Jamaica Regiment of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).  He will be accommodated at King’s House, as the guest of Their Excellencies, The Governor-General the Most Honourable  Sir Patrick Allen and The Most Honourable Lady Allen.
