Marcus Garvey’s Son Delivers Lecture at UWI,Mona

Dr. Julius Garvey, the son of national hero, Marcus Garvey will deliver a lecture entitled, “The Relevance of Garveyism in Jamaica Today: Fifty Years After Political Independence.” The event is slated for Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 6 pm at the Undercroft, UWI, Mona. The Lecture is a part of the 125th Garvey Anniversary (Earthday) celebrations in Jamaica set for August 17-19. 
 
The Lecture will explore the relevance of Garvey’s teachings of African Identity, Black Pride, Black Economic Independence, Black Self Reliance and Black Unity in the Jamaican society.
 
Dr. Julius Garvey is the youngest son of Marcus Garvey and was a founding member of the Marcus Garvey Committee International Incorporated, an organization that strives to improve the economic, cultural, educational and spiritual condition of Africans worldwide. He also serves on several the Boards including The Board for the Education of People of African Ancestry and the Zumbi Foundation.

Other events slated as part of the 125th anniversary celebrations include: Visit to Garvey’s Grave, Opening of the Garvey Mobile Library at Liberty Hall and Grand Celebrations on August 17, the birthday of Marcus Garvey.
