The Department of Management Studies (DOMS), and The Mona School of Business (MSB) of The University of the West Indies, have merged to become Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) effective August 1, 2012 a single business school within the Faculty of Social Sciences. 
 
The UWI Mona now hosts a first of its kind business school within the region; as it is the only Business school of this size and quality, offering programmes at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Mona School of Business and Management will benefit from the strong brand equity of MSB in the business community, acknowledged to be the premier school for graduate business education in the region as well as the reputation of DOMS for innovative research and contribution to social and economic policy formation, and the combined extensive local and international relationships of both entities.  The union will produce a critical mass of scholars to significantly strengthen research capability in business and management and facilitate cutting-edge innovations to address the critical priorities of the nation and the wider Caribbean region. 
 
The expanded research and publication productivity, greater teaching and learning flexibility and their impact on quality, will allow the School to be better positioned to obtain Institutional Accreditation from the most prestigious international accreditation body, the Association for the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). 
 
“We have created a Business School that is positioned to be globally competitive, one that will attract students and faculty of the highest calibre” expressed Professor Gordon Shirley, Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal of The University of the West Indies. “The merged entity has brought us in line with models of international business schools that offer both scale and quality in all ranges of undergraduate, postgraduate and executive education; and is therefore a step in the right direction for the University” remarked Professor Shirley. 
 
Professor Paul Simmonds former Dean of the Business School of The University of the Virgin Islands, has been appointed Executive Director of MSBM and Dr. Densil Williams, former Head of DOMS, Deputy Executive Director. “Mona School of Business and Management will build on the strengths of the two antecedents and that of the wider UWI, leveraging the core competencies and reputation for excellence in the provision of higher education and in support of business and economic development in the region” remarked Professor Simmonds. Professor Evan Duggan, who served as Executive Director of the Mona School of Business for the past four years, has taken the baton from Professor Mark Figueroa to serve as the new Dean in the Faculty of Social Sciences, effective August 1, 2012. 
 
Mona School of Business and Management now boasts the most expansive selection of programmes and courses in business education in the region and a wide resource pool of world class academics and business leaders. Offerings include Graduate Diploma in Business Administration, B.Sc, M.Sc, MBA, Executive-MBA PhD and DBA degree programmes, a carefully selected suite of short courses and customized corporate programs. According to Professor Duggan, “This unified Business School will produce the synergy and other benefits of scale and scope that will equip us to extend the possibilities for all stakeholders (faculty, students, alumni, business clients, the nation and the region) and further position The UWI to define a value proposition that cannot be replicated in the region.” 
 
There are plans to establish a new home for the Mona School of Business and Management in the future. The new facilities will provide a state of the art learning environment in keeping with the University's commitment to creating centres of excellence, with emphasis on practical relevance and employability. The Mona School of Business and Management will be a force to be reckoned with as it aims to make a major impact in Business Management Education, locally and internationally.
