The Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) falls under the Office of the Deputy Principal. 
 
 
 
The name of the Instructional Development Unit has been changed on all three residential campuses of the University of the West Indies to Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). The name change took effect on January 25 this year after approval by the Vice-Chancellor in 2012 and subsequent ratification by the University Finance and General Purposes Committee on January 25, 2013. 
What is the CETL?
The Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), formerly the Instructional Development Unit (IDU), is the arm of the The University of the West Indies that is charged with the responsibility of advancing teaching and learning through the professional development of faculty.
The CETL provides programmes that allow faculty to become more intentional about their professional practice and engage in critical conversations about their teaching. The professional development offered through CETL is geared at nurturing attitudes, skills, competencies and behaviours of faculty in pursuit of greater professionalism and enhanced effectiveness in responding to the needs of students. One of the major offerings of the CETL is the post-graduate Certificate in University Teaching and Learning which is a requirement for all new faculty and is available to all UWI academic staff who are interested.
Mission Statement
The Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is committed to improving the quality of teaching and learning at The University of the West Indies. To this end, CETL provides training for staff in the principles and practices of learner-centred teaching through a wide range of programmes, services and activities designed to facilitate effective student learning and the attainment of excellence.
