Multi millionaire, Jamaican-born Levi Roots to give motivational talk to UWI Mona students

Multi millionaire, Jamaican born, Levi Roots – the man whose ‘reggae reggae’ sauce skyrocketed to success on a popular British TV show - will share insights into his entrepreneurial journey with UWI Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) students on Monday, April 8th.

The motivational talk scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the MSBM will be based on his book “You can get it if you really want", which chronicles his journey from Clarendon to the United Kingdom. Levi Roots visits UWI Mona on the invitation of the Mona School of Business and Management which will also continue ongoing partnership discussions with the entrepreneur.

Levi Roots came to international prominence in 2006 when his ‘Reggae Reggae’ Sauce was the winner of the BBC programme “Dragons Den”.  In exchange for a 40 per cent stake in his business, he secured the support of millionaire “Dragon” Peter Jones and Richard Farleigh for £50,000. Peter Jones helped to get the sauce listed by Sainsbury’s, turning the dream into reality. His product, “Reggae Reggae Sauce” is now stocked by all of the major retailers and the Levi Roots Brand has been extended across a range of other products.  The Levi Roots range continues to grow with Caribbean inspired cooking sauces, ready meals, soft drinks, pastries and more. Numerous high profile restaurant chains have signed deals with Levi to use the sauce on their menus.

Levi Roots, who has expressed a keen interest in sharing with young people in schools and universities, is quoted as saying that he wants to “spread the word that if a black Brixtonian Rastafarian can make it with just a sauce, then you can make it too.” Over the last few years Levi has spent a significant amount of time visiting schools and inspiring youngsters to commit to their studies whilst also discovering their passions. The School of Life Tour seeks to achieve this on a wider scale.

Levi Roots commented: “My hopes for the tour this year are to get young people excited about cooking and music but also to prove to them that it doesn’t matter where you come from or what your background is, if you work hard and stay determined you can be a success.”

The Mona School of Business and Management is the Caribbean’s premier provider of business and management education. It has been ranked by the Eduniversal International Scientific Committee (France) among the top 1,000 business schools in the world in the Worldwide Business Schools ranking
