For 67 years of his life, Nelson Mandela fought for the rights of humanity.
In 2008, following his 90th birthday celebrations, the decision was made to dedicate his birth date as a day to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela’s sacrifices and his selfless work to humanity. July 18th was declared Nelson Mandela Day.
The Nelson Mandela Day campaign is a call to action for persons all over the world to do what they can to help change the world for the better by creating ‘a global movement for good’. The campaign message is that since Mr. Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity, everyone can give 67 minutes of their time, to support a meaningful charity or to serve their local communities.
