The Faculty of Medical Sciences, the University of the West Indies, Mona will hold its Twenty Second Annual Research Conference and Workshop from November 6-8 at the Faculty of Medical Sciences Teaching and Research Complex beginning at 8.00 a.m. daily.  The theme of this year’s Conference and Workshop is “Affairs of the Heart”.
 
 
The Sir Kenneth Standard Distinguished Lecture will be given by Professor Augustus Grant, Past President of the American Heart Association and Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical School. 
 
 
Scientific Session Presentations will include: The burden of sight threatening diabetic retinopathy; Sleep duration and TV time on infant overweight/obesity in the Caribbean;  Anti-inflammatory properties of Croton linearis (Wild Rosemarie) and Pregnant Women with degenerating fibroids.
 
 
Topics to be presented at the Workshop will include: Surgical Management of Atrial Fibrillation; Nurses- run Heart Failure Clinics; Cardiac Rehabilitation; Heart disease in Pregnancy and Genetics of Cardiac Arrhythmia.
