Dacres achieves first Diamond League win

The University of the West Indies, Mona congratulates scholarship athlete and discus thrower, Federick Dacres, on his outstanding performance at the recent IAAF(International Association of Athletics Federation) Diamond League meet held in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday, June 18, 2017. Dacres threw a distance of 68.36m, the third-farthest distance so far this season. It was the first IAAF Diamond League win of his career.
The 23-year-old has been having an excellent season. He set the national record for Jamaica twice this year, first in January at the Big Shot Invitational meet with a throw of 68.67m, then broke it just two weeks later at the King of the Ring throws meet at Excelsior High with a mark of 68.88 on February 11.
He is now preparing for the JAAA (Jamaica Athletics Administration Association's ) National Senior Championships this weekend in order to book his spot on the Jamaican team for the IAAF World Championships in London this August.
