MBA Programme at MSBM obtains highest level of accreditation from Association of MBAs (AMBA)

The MBA programme offered by  Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) has been reaccredited by the prestigious Association of MBAs (AMBA) for a period of five years, which is the longest period offered by the AMBA. The programme was first accredited in June 2011 for three years and reaccredited in June 2014 for a further three years. The achievement of a five-year period of accreditation is therefore a testament to the School’s continuing commitment to quality and excellence.  AMBA is internationally recognised as the global standard for all MBA, MBM, and DBA programmes.

MSBM is one of two institutions in the Caribbean to have received AMBA accreditation for MBA programmes, an achievement particularly notable as AMBA,  the only global MBA-specific Accreditation and Membership Organisation, accredits the leading 2% of the world’s business schools with MBA programmes.

The Accreditation review team commended the School for its performance and position in a number of areas including: the thrust towards becoming a more research-centred institution, with special mention of the School’s Publication the MSBM Business Review, which showcases the Faculty’s applied research, the creation of tangible connections between the theory and the practical aspects of business through its “Reasoning Series with CEOs” and the “Public Advocacy Series”. The “Executives in Residence initiative”, which is a collaboration between MSBM and select Business Executives who serve as liaisons with the business community was also commended as an ideal medium to offer professional and practical mentorship to students.

Furthermore, in addition to building and maintaining an excellent relationship with members of the private sector, the MSBM was congratulated on the high level of satisfaction employers expressed with the level of education received by MBA graduates of the institution.

Commenting on the development,  MSBM’s Executive Director (Acting),  Michael Williams stated, “Our reaccreditation by AMBA, and particularly the extension of its duration to a five-year period, is truly a reflection of the hard work we have undertaken since the last renewal and our focus on quality assurance.”

Williams further noted, “As we continue our drive to become of one of the western hemisphere’s leading business schools, we have explored several avenues through which to enhance the quality of education offered to our students, as well as to ensure that they leave MSBM equipped with the tools needed to make a positive contribution to nation building. I believe this achievement is a signal that we are headed in the right direction”.
The curriculum for the MSBM MBA programme was revised in 2015 after extensive international benchmarking and consultation with stakeholders including employers and alumni. The revised programme includes a compulsory Ethics course and the inclusion of Business Analytics as a core course and very significantly, a compulsory Field Project which involves students interacting with industry stakeholders to solve real business problems. This revised programme has been on offer since September 2016.
