National Honours for Members of The UWI Community

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus extends warm congratulations to five members of staff presented with national honours by His Excellency, the Governor General of Jamaica, the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen. 
 
The National Honours and Awards Ceremony was held at King’s House in St Andrew on Monday October 15, 2018.  
 
Among the recipients was Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the Mona Campus, Professor Dale Webber who received the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD). Professor Webber was recognised for his outstanding contribution to environmental conservation.  
 
Professor Celia Christie-Samuels, Dr Erroll Williams and Mr. Michael Gardner were also conferred with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD). Professor Christie-Samuels was recognised for outstanding contribution to public service and child health; Dr Williams for his outstanding service to the field of dentistry and Mr Michael Gardner in recognition of services to the medical sciences, in particular anatomy; and Dr Delroy Fray was awarded the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer (OD) for service to the health sector.  
 
The UWI Mona specially recognises and congratulates Mr Earl Jarrett, Chairman of the UWI Mona Campus Council and Honorary Graduand Grace Jones, on receiving the Order of Jamaica (OJ). Mr. Jarrett was recognised for exceptional contribution to the banking and financial sectors, public service and volunteerism and Grace Jones for exceptional contribution to the field of fashion and entertainment internationally.
 
 National Honours and Awards are presented to recognise individuals who by their service and contribution have had a meaningful and significant impact on national life. Orders are used to recognise merit in terms of achievement and service. Decorations and Awards are used to recognise bravery, meritorious, long and/or valuable service and/or good conduct. 
 
The University community congratulates the recipients on this tremendous achievement which acknowledges their years of outstanding and dedicated service, in keeping with our mission to advance learning, create knowledge and foster innovation for the positive transformation of the Caribbean and the world.
