The UWI Global Giving Programme benefits from establishment of Massy United Insurance Scholarship

UWI Global Giving is set to benefit from a partnership with Massy United Insurance Ltd. (MUI) who has established a Scholarship valued at $1.65m dedicated to students studying Actuarial Science. On Friday, August 14, 2020, Mrs. Winsome Gibbs, branch manager, handed over a cheque in that amount to Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal of The UWI Mona Campus, Professor Dale Webber. The Scholarship will be available to applicants studying Actuarial Science following the successful completion of their first year of the Programme. This award will cover tuition and accommodation costs for the awardee for the remainder of the programme. Speaking at the handing over, Prof. Webber expressed his gratitude to Massy United Insurance for their contribution to increasing access to higher education for UWI students citing it as “one of the main goals as an institution and a cornerstone for building a better nation.”

The scholarship will be available to Caribbean nationals under 30 years of age who have successfully completed Year One of the Actuarial Science program; the applicant must have maintained at least a B average or a GPA of 3.0; the student must also sustain good citizenship and meet all other requirements of the University pertinent to student behaviour, discipline and performance. Through this scholarship, an internship and job opportunities will be made available following graduation.
