Tracy Robinson, Senior Lecturer and Deputy Dean, Graduate Studies and Research, Faculty of Law, The UWI Mona, has been appointed to a three-person Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Libya. The announcement was made by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet on August 24, 2020.

The Fact-Finding Mission on Libya was established by the Human Rights Council on 22 June 2020, inter alia, to document alleged violations and abuses of international human rights law and international humanitarian law by all parties in Libya since the start of 2016. High Commissioner Bachelet said, “This body of experts will serve as an essential mechanism to effectively address the widespread impunity for human rights violations and abuses committed, and can also serve as a deterrent to prevent further violations and contribute to peace and stability in the country”.

The other two expert members of the Mission are Mohamed Auajjar (Chair), former Minister for Justice and Minister of Human Rights of the Kingdom of Morocco, and Chaloka Beyani of Zambia and the United Kingdom who teaches international law at London School of Economics.

Robinson was a Commissioner on the recently completed Independent Review of Equity and Health Inequalities in the Americas, initiated by PAHO/WHO. She was a member of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) between 2012 and 2015 and served as its President between 2014 and 2015. She is a co-coordinator with Arif Bulkan (St. Augustine) of the Faculty of Law The UWI Rights Advocacy Project (U-RAP).
