Ms. Deika Morrison is newest Honorary Research Fellow at The UWI’s Institute for Sustainable Development

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Deika as an Honorary Research Fellow at the Institute for Sustainable Development (The ISD). Ms Morrison, whose appointment is initially for a period of one year, from October 12, 2020 to October 11, 2021 will focus her fellowship on strengthening the research capacity of the Institute.

She comes to the Institute with a wealth of experience from the private and public sector having worked as an Environmental Scientist in Florida; Chief Research Officer for a multinational financial institution; as well as Senator and State Minister of Finance and Planning in the Government of Jamaica.  

Her qualifications include double Masters degrees in Engineering Science and in Business Administration (MBA) from Harvard University and the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania respectively. She also earned two Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania; one in applied Science, Environmental Systems (cum laude), majoring in water and waste water systems and another in Economics (cum laude) majoring in Finance.

She is also co-founder of Mdk Advisory and Consulting Ltd, a boutique advisory firm specialising in strategy, operational efficiency, marketing, communication and digital mobilisation as well as diaspora engagement. She is also co-founder of Do Good Jamaica and Do Good International non-profit organisations focused on empowering young people, primarily through education, and building resilient communities through collaboration. 

In public service, Ms Morrison has held positions as board member for a number of organisations, including Chair of the Anti-Dumping and Subsidies Commission.  She has served as a member of the Economic Policy Committee of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica; the United Way Women’s Leadership Initiative; the Prime Ministerial Advisory Council and the Rotary Club of Kingston.  She is the current President of the University of Pennsylvania Alumni Club in Jamaica and also a current member of the Jamaica Institute of Environmental Professionals.
