Ramsay, to the rank of Professor. The promotion comes in the wake of assessment of her academic accomplishments and contribution to her field.

A University of the West Indies (UWI) team led by Chadwick Walton will compete against an English XI in a 50-overs cricket match this Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Warner Park, Basseterre, St. Kitts. It bowls off at 9:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public. It will also be streamed live on www.windiescricket.com. The UWI Vice-Chancellor’s XI Cricket Match will be a warm-up match preceding England’s tour of the West Indies for a three-match ODI series.

Director of the UWI Diabetes Education Programme and Professor of Medical Biochemistry and Diabetology, Prof. Dalip Ragoobirsingh, has been named joint recipient of the 2017 Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Science Award.
The CARICOM Science Award represents recognition of the leading scientists of the region. The Award is a joint effort between CARISCIENCE and the CARICOM Secretariat and is meant to give recognition and visibility to outstanding scientific achievements made by individuals from the CARICOM countries.

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus and the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) have announced a unique arrangement, where PSOJ member companies will be able to benefit from evidence-based research from the Mona Campus when focusing on areas that contribute to the growth agenda. The university will also be paying more attention to those research areas guided by the Economic Growth Council’s eight identified areas of growth.
The plans were announced as part of the launch of the 18th staging of the UWI Mona’s Research Days at the Exhibition Seminar Room, Faculty of Medical Sciences Teaching & Research Complex on Tuesday, January 10.

Coordinator of the Institute for Sustainable Development at The University of the West Indies (The UWI), Dr David Smith was recently selected among a group of international eminent scientists and experts to work on the United Nations (UN) Global Sustainable Development Report. Before demitting office in 2016, Former Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Dr Smith and 14 others to draft the Report which is due to be published in 2019. Dr Smith who is also Coordinator of the University Consortium for Small Island States and the Caribbean Chair for the Sustainable Development Solutions Network is the only representative on the team from the Caribbean.

The leadership, staff and students of the UWI Open Campus mourn the passing of our Campus Council Chair Sir Dwight Venner on Thursday December 22, 2016. Sir Dwight was a regional giant whose passion, dedication and commitment to the development of the people of the region were legendary. It was therefore no surprise that in 2008 Sir Dwight agreed to serve as the first Chairman of the newly formed Open Campus, a post that he held right up to the time of his passing.

University Director of The University of the West Indies’ (The UWI) Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS), Professor Verene Shepherd will address more than 500 parliamentarians at the inaugural Commonwealth Parliamentary Association’s (CPA) Regional Hot Topics (RHT). The forum is carded for December 15 at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in London from 2-5 pm (UK time).

The Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation and The University of the West Indies will host a Caribbean Outreach event by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the world body that assesses the science related to climate change, on November 29-December 1, 2016.
The Caribbean Development Bank, the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre, the Inter-American Development Bank and Panos Caribbean are also partnering with the Ministry and The UWI to host the event.
