UWI UWIAA Pandemic Poetry Competition

Eligibility and Pandemic Poetry Rules

1. Who is eligible to enter?

The competition is open to all registered students at The UWI, Mona campuses in Kingston and Montego Bay.

2. How many poems can I enter?

One original, never before published, poem up to 32 lines long.

3. What should my poem be about?

Your COVID-19 experiences. We want you to share your struggles, pain, triumphs or resilience as we collectively fight this pandemic together.

4. What can I win?

     A tablet.

   A chance to have your work published online and in the national dailies.

5. How should I prepare my entry for submission?

     You should use 12-point font, double line spacing.

       Do not put your name on the poem.

   Include your name, faculty and ID number on the downloadable entry form.

6. How do I submit an entry?

     You must submit your entry using your UWI e-mail address

     Please email your entry to: cassandra.brenton@uwimona.edu.jm.

     You must include COVID-19 in the subject.

   If you fail to use your UWI e-mail address or include your faculty and ID number, we will not be able to consider your entry.

7. How will my entry be reviewed?

All entries will be blind-judged by a team of qualified judges. Judging will be conducted in two rounds.

8. When is the final date for submission of entries? Friday, February 26, 2021.

9. Will I retain ownership of the copyright to my poem? Yes.

10. When will the winner and runners-up be notified?

 Friday, March 19, 2021 via e-mail.

 The decision of the judges is final.
