First Premium Teaching Award

The University of the West Indies in collaboration with Guardian Life, will host the first Premium Teaching Award at the Mona Campus on Thursday, October 7 at the Mona Visitors Lodge and Conference Centre, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Award recognizes the outstanding teaching accomplishments of the university’s academic staff. It is given exclusively for teaching, particularly in developing structures and processes that help to create an environment in which teaching excellence is valued and fostered.
In commemoration of the premium teaching award, the Instructional Development Unit at Mona will host a series of workshops on Wednesday and Friday. The workshops will be conducted by Neil Fleming, an Educational Consultant of Lincoln University, New Zealand. Mr. Fleming is the author of three books on Learning Styles and Teaching. The first two workshops will be held at the University of Technology on Wednesday, October 6 . The first workshop will be held at the Caribbean School of Architecture Seminar Room at 9:00 a.m. and is entitled Strategies for Improving Learning and Testing. The second workshop will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Technology Innovation Centre Conference Room at UTech. The topic for the second workshop is Using Students in Groups and Teams: Pitfalls and Possibilities.
The seminars continue on Friday, October 8 at the UWI Mona Campus with sessions beginning at 9:00 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. The first seminar is entitled “From Teaching to Learning – Towards a More Learning Approach” and the second is titled “Being a Success in the Large Lecture Format.
