WIGUT Bursaries

The West Indies Group of University Teachers (WIGUT) will host a ceremony on Thursday, November 11 at 4:00 p.m. at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, UWI, Mona to present bursaries to students at Mona. WIGUT, the trade union that represents the interests of Academic and Senior Administrative Staff at Mona was established in 1958 and became a trade union in 1972. The organisation established the Bursary Scheme to assist needy students in 1991 through the initiative of former WIGUT President and current Deputy Principal at Mona, Mr. Joseph Periera. WIGUT is the largest donor of bursaries at Mona. Contributions are made voluntarily by staff members and to date bursaries amounting to some $13 million have been awarded. General Bursaries awarded are $25,000 each while Special Bursaries named in memory of late members of WIGUT are $30,000 each.
