Jamaica Committee Scholarship 2004/2005

Nicola Brown a student in Department of Educational Studies, Faculty of Humanities and Education, UWI, Mona is the recipient of the Jamaica Committee Scholarship for the 2004/2005 academic year. The Jamaica Committee, an US registered Not For Profit Corporation, comprised of Jamaicans and lovers of Jamaica, is committed to helping, to provide a better life for the less advantaged of the island. Funds raised are used to assist in a variety of ways, the Primary Option Scholarship being one opportunity to assist in the further education of Jamaican teachers by providing full tuition for the two years of the B. Ed. Programme. Ms. Brown, who is on leave from her position as a grade 6 teacher at Effortville Primary School in May Pen intends to return to her school and continue to teach once she has completed her studies. The Jamaica Committee funds this scholarship as well as providing contributions to PALS (Peace and Love In Schools), Girl Guides Association, Jamaica Association for the Blind and many other notable causes and groups by conducting a fundraiser known as the Pineapple Ball, to be held this year (as it was last year) at Rose Hall Great House. Donations are US$150 per person for an all-inclusive evening, which given the success of last year, promises to be an evening of pure pleasure. For tickets or information contact moyraf@aol.com
