UWI JobLink Website Re-Launch
The Office of Placement and Career Services UWI, Mona re-launched its Job Link Website at a ceremony held on November 17. The ceremony was intended to share with UWI students and graduates, as well as representatives of the business community and government organisations improvements and additional features that have made the site even more user friendly. The site has been functional for just over one year.
Student Services Manager, Placement and Career Services, Mrs. Merrit Henry, speaking at the ceremony noted that the goal of the JobLink website is to “give prospective employers, UWI alumni and students greater access to the variety of services offered by the Office of Placement and Career Services.”
It was designed to put clients on the competitive edge, using advanced technology, she said. The computerised Job Placement and Career Development tool allows prospective employers to gain access to a database of resumes for job seeking candidates, thereby reducing cost and time in the recruitment process.
For students/job seekers, the JobLink website also saves time and cost, and gives them exposure to numerous recruiters. Instead of visiting the office they can place their applications on line from their locations. JobLink also provides hypertext links to other similar websites such as the Ministry of Labour, therefore giving job seekers other opportunities for posting resumes. “The service also has a career development component which will allow for the development of skills and competencies required during the job hunting process, Mrs. Henry said.
