Annual Commemoration Celebrations and Alumni Week

Members of the UWI community are gearing up for the Annual Commemoration celebrations and Alumni Week to take place at the Mona Campus over the period February 17 – 27. The 2005 celebrations are being held in honour of Director General of the International Centre for Environmental and Nuclear Sciences and former Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor the Hon. Gerald Lalor. The week begins with a Flag Raising Ceremony and University Parade on Friday, February 18, aimed at highlighting the regional nature of the institution. Another highlight of the week is the Grand Commemoration Concert and Pelican Awards Ceremony which takes place on Sunday, February 20, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Pelican Award is presented to a graduate of the University who has contributed significantly to the development of the University or has made an outstanding contribution to Jamaica. This is the most prestigious award given by the UWI Alumni Association. For 2005, the award will be presented to Dr. Deanna Ashley of the Ministry of Health, Environmentalist, Bevon Morrison and recently retired University Librarian, Stephney Ferguson.
