VC Proposes Centre for Chinese Language, Culture
UWI Vice Chancellor Professor E. Nigel Harris has proposed the establishment of a Caribbean Centre for Chinese Language, Culture, Science and Technology at the University. He has also proposed that a Chinese University in the People’s Republic of China similarly establish a Centre for Caribbean Language, Culture, Science and Technology. The proposal was made during the visit of Vice President of the Peoples Republic of China, Mr. Zeng Quinhong who headed a large delegation of Chinese Public and Private Sector officials on a visit to the UWI Mona Campus. Professor Harris said that the centres, through exchanges of teachers, cultural figures, scientists and technologists could lead to an even greater mutual understanding between the Peoples of the Caribbean and the Peoples of China. The Chinese Vice President expressed pleasure at his visit to the Mona Campus and said that his government wished to explore areas in which it could continue to collaborate with the UWI.
