Philip Sherlock Centre Anniversary Week 2005

The week of February 21-27 will mark the Anniversary of the Philip Sherlock Centre. This year the occasion will be celebrated with a series of events acknowledging Black History Month and presented in collaboration with local and foreign cultural institutions.
On Monday, Feb. 21 at 6:00 p.m. activities kick off with a lecture/demonstration presented by Carl Campbell, Jamaican-born director of UK based Caribbean Dance Company 7, with a performance by the Tivoli Dancers. On Wednesday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m. there will be the staging of “Africa Nite” mounted by the African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica and featuring Amina Blackwood Meeks and the Wolmers Dance Troupe. On Thursday, February 24 between 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. the Centre will hold a Lunch Hour Concert, featuring poet/actress Joan Andrea Hutchinson reading from her recent publication “Mek Mi Tell Yu”. The celebration culminates on Sunday, February 27 at 11:00 a.m., when writer, Olive Senior, winner of a Gold Musgrave Medal, presents the 12th renewal of the premier event on the Centres calendar - the Annual Philip Sherlock Lecture. The public is invited.
