SALISES 6th Annual Conference

“Governance, Institutions and Economic Growth: Reflections on Arthur Lewis’ Theory of Economic Growth is the theme of the Sixth Annual Conference being organised by the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies over the period March 17 – 18 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. Professor Norman Girvan of the Institute of International Relations at the UWI St. Augustine Campus will be the Guest Speaker at the opening ceremony which takes place on Thursday, March 17 at 9.00 a.m. This will be followed by a plenary session ‘Reflections on Sir Arthur Lewis’. There will be five plenary sessions over the period of the conference, with topics such as From Culture and Development to the Cultural Politics of Development; Catching up with Modernity: at what Cost? Future Scoping Global Governance for Development and Human Security; Regional Governance the Agony of the 15 and Financing Economic Growth. There will also be concurrent panels examining topics including Issues in Industrial Development, Social Power and Development and the Impact of Globalization. The conference is open to the public.
