The Centre for Caribbean Thought

The Centre for Caribbean Thought at the UWI Mona campus will host its fourth Caribbean Reasonings using the theme “The thought of the new world: the quest for decolonization” over the period June 16 – June 18 at the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre. The new world group (NWG) was established in the early 1960s, when Lloyd best, Alister McIntyre, and other social scientists at the Institute for Social and Economic Research, UWI, Mona and later with others in Georgetown, Guyana, formed a loose discussion group for the purpose of examining economic and social problems in light of an analysis of West Indian history and society.
The Centre for Caribbean Thought is calling for papers, panels, roundtables and exhibitions in areas covered by the original members of the new world group. These include the origins and structure of the new world group, new world philosophy, new world and radical politics: relationship to political movements and the experience of new world members in politics; new world and literature: and the new world and radical Caribbean journalism. All proposals for papers, panels, round tables and exhibitions will be considered. Interested persons should contact Adlyn smith, at the Centre for Caribbean Thought, Department of Government, University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. Successful persons will be notified by April 15.
