Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts
The Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts’ Resident Theatre Company, the University players, has received the International Theatre Institute’s Actor Boy Award for best drama for 2004. The award was presented recently at the Little Theatre for the University Players’ production of ‘One of Our Sons’ by Trinidadian playwright Godfrey Sealey. Directed by UWI Staff Tutor in Drama, Brian Heap, the production received a total of three nominations including best production, best director as well as best drama. The University Players, established by former UWI Staff Tutor in Drama Noel Vaz, was revived in 2003 as a Threatre Company for UWI graduates, faculty and specially invited guest performers. A new show by the group, ‘The Black That I Am…’ opens at the Centre on May 6.
