Chair in Telecommunications Policy and Management at UWI
The Digicel Foundation has established a Chair in Telecommunications Policy and Management at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus as part of an effort to encourage development and increased tertiary educational opportunities in the region. The announcement was made on Thursday, April 7, at a reception hosted by Principal of the Campus, Professor the Hon. Kenneth Hall, to honour partners of the Mona Campus. Professor Hall said the Digicel sponsorship was the largest donation that the Campus had had for a sponsored chair.
The new Chair will be hosted by the Mona School of Business and will provide training and research opportunities at the Masters and PhD levels. It will also contribute courses or modules to existing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The programme will consist of taught courses, industry and academic seminars and sponsored research. The Digicel Foundation is a non-profit organisation established by Digicel to distribute and utilise resources for the sole purpose of building communities and the community sprit in Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean. The Foundation is already a member of the UWI Century Club which comprises companies making donations of at least one million dollars to the Institution.
