Pilot Course on Incorporating On-line Learning in Distance Education

Work is to begin on the development of a pilot course on incorporating on-line learning in distance education to be undertaken by the University of Technology, Jamaica and the University of the West Indies. The work is part of an ongoing programme of activities being undertaken by the Caribbean Universities Project for Integrated Distance Education (CUPIDE). CUPIDE brings together five universities across the English, Dutch and French-speaking Caribbean in a collaborative distance education project. The project is aimed at improving access to their services through increased use of information and communication technologies. The universities are the University of Technology, Jamaica, the University Quisqueya in Haiti, the Anton de Dom University of Suriname, the University of Guyana and the University of the West Indies, which is responsible for the management of the project. CUPIDE also plans to engage strategic planners to assist the universities to concretize plans for the incorporation of information communication technologies in their distance education offerings. CUPIDE is funded through the Japanese funds-in-trust for capacity building of human resources and is administered through UNESCO.
