Fourth “Caribbean Reasonings” Conference – June 16 - 18
The Centre for Caribbean Thought at the UWI Mona Campus in collaboration with the Africana Studies Department, Brown University, USA will host the fourth Annual “Caribbean Reasonings” Conference, entitled “The Thought of New World: The Quest for Decolonization” over the period June 16 – June 18 at the Social Sciences Lecture Theatre. Professor Vaughan Lewis of the Institute of International Relations at the UWI, St. Augustine Campus and former Prime Minister of St. Lucia will be the guest speaker at the Opening Ceremony on June 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the Undercroft of the Senate Building. Themes to be explored at the conference include: The Economics of New World and the Contemporary Caribbean; Beyond New World: Gender Diaspora and Development; Decolonization, Sovereignty, Governmentality: The Politics of New World; Beyond New World: Culture Race and Diaspora in the Contemporary Moment; Walter Rodney: 25 years later; Persistent Social Questions: Poverty, Housing and Family and Post Colonial Intellectual and Political Leadership. The public is invited.
