Seventh Intra-regional Migration Seminar

The University of the West Indies, through its Latin American Caribbean Centre hosts its Seventh Annual Seminar on the Jamaican Diaspora and its impact both locally and regionally from July 8 - 9. The Opening ceremony will take place on Friday July 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Undercroft of the Senate Building, UWI and on Saturday the session will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Neville Hall Lecture Theatre, N1. This year’s seminar will focus on ‘The Socio-economic and Cultural Impact of Caribbean Migration to Belize and Honduras”. The seminar series was launched in 2000 with a view to tracing the socio-economic and cultural impact of the intra-regional movement of English-speaking Caribbean nationals on both the receiving and sending countries. According to the organisers, there are significant pockets of the descendants of Caribbean migrants in the Central American and two Northern South American countries and greater links between the Caribbean and Latin America have become necessary against the background of globalization and regional integration.
