First Premium Teaching Lecture
The University of the West Indies and Guardian Life Limited present the first Premium Teaching Lecture at Mona on Thursday, October 6 at 5:00 p.m. at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre. This bi-ennial event which alternates with the premium, teaching award is designed to reflect 21st century trends in teaching and learning and enhance the quality of teaching at UWI.
This year’s lecture is entitled ‘exploring the shoreline of learning; self-directed learning online’ and centres around the impact of digital technologies on learning, notably on self-directed learning. The lecture will be presented by Professor Philip Candy, Director of the National Health Services, Institute, London.
Professor Candy’s current research interest is in the area of higher education but he has also undertaken scholarly work in the field of adult teaching and learning. He is the author of a book entitled ‘Self-Direction for Lifelong Learning’ which won him the prestigious Cyril Houle World Award for Literature in Adult Education.
