Information Centre for Children Welfare
The Caribbean Child Development Centre, CCDC, at the UWI, recently negotiated an agreement with the Inter-American Children’s Institute, IIN to set up an Information Centre at the CCDC comprising databases of documents, organizations and projects related to children and families.
A specialized arm of the Organization of American States, the IIN aims to raise awareness of the problems affecting children in the Americas with the purpose of improving the health, education and general welfare of these children, young people and families.
This is the first time this project will be implemented in the English-speaking Caribbean. Along with the arrangement with the CCDC, the Information Centre will also be established in Antigua and Trinidad.
Training in the set-up, use and maintenance of the systems is currently being held in a week-long workshop at the Caribbean Child Development Centre. Presenters are Julio Rosenblatt and Silvana Bruno from the IIN in Uruguay, with representatives from the governments of Trinidad and Antigua, the UWI Mona Library and the CCDC.
