Dr. Tracey Gibson awarded Master of Science in Medical Genetics
Dr. Tracey Gibson has recently rejoined the staff of the Department of Pathology, where she holds the post of Lecturer. Earlier this month, she completed a course of study at the University of Glasgow, in Scotland, where she placed first in her class, and was awarded the Master of Science degree (Medical Sciences) in Medical Genetics with distinction. This Masters course provided training in Molecular genetics, Cytogenetics, Biochemical genetics and Clinical genetics, and included both theoretical and practical work.
Dr. Gibson’s dissertation for this course took the form of a pilot investigation of the polymorphisms of the cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) and glutathione s-transferase mu type 1 (GSTM1) genes in Jamaican lung cancer patients and controls, and evaluated their relation to individual susceptibility to lung cancer.
