Education for Sustainable Development
Education for Development: New Approaches for the Future is the theme of a Caribbean Regional Conference, which will be held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel from October 18 -20. The Conference is a joint effort of the UNESCO Office for the Caribbean, The University of the West Indies in association with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Culture, the United Nations Environment Programme, the Caribbean Network of Teacher Educators and the National Environmental Education Committee. The conference aims to provide a forum to discuss and address the issues of education for sustainable development, raise awareness of the work of educators in the Caribbean and facilitate the exchange of information and experiences.
The Conference on Education for Sustainable Development will also launch the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development in the Caribbean and prepare action plans for follow-up work. The conference will consist of formal presentations and panel discussions in the mornings while the afternoons will be devoted to workshop sessions geared towards specific outputs in four groupings: teacher educators, science and technology educators, youth and non-formal and environmental educators. It is expected that these workshop sessions will produce plans for the next several years towards the implementation of activities for the decade. For further information, please contact Professor I.
