Professor Kamau Brathwaite launches New Book
Celebrated Caribbean Poet and Historian, Prof. Kamau Brathwaite will launch a new book by Clinton Hutton, “The Logic and Historical Significance of the Haitian Revolution and the Cosmological Roots of Haitian Freedom,” at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, UWI Mona Campus on Friday, November 18, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The book takes a philosophical look at the Haitian Revolution and its fundamental contribution to the agency of freedom and justice in the culture of modern civilization. The launch of the publication will be accompanied by an exhibition of Hutton’s paintings and photographs with the theme ‘The Haitian Revolution and 75 years of Rastafari’. The exhibition will be opened by UWI’s Vice Chancellor Emeritus and noted Caribbean Scholar and Artistic figure, Prof. Rex Nettleford.
Dr. Hutton lectures in Political Philosophy and Cultural Studies at the UWI, Mona Campus. He is a noted painter and photographer with nearly 30 exhibitions to his name.
