A Study on Issues of Men and Gender in the Caribbean
A team of researchers associated with the UWI has received funding from CIDA’s Canada/Caribbean Gender Equality Programme through the University of the West Indies HIV/AIDS Response Programme (UWIHARP) to conduct a study on Issues of Men and Gender in the Caribbean. The team includes Clinical Psychologists, Dr Peter Weller and Rev. Stephen-Claude Hyatt, and Development Communication Specialist at CARIMAC, Patrick Prendergast. The three lead a project called the Man (Male Action Network) initiative, which seeks to highlight issues facing the Caribbean man in a rapidly changing world where men’s social realities are constantly being redefined and challenged.
The findings from the current research will be shared at a regional conference scheduled for January 17 and 18, 2006 under the theme “Man Talk - Caribbean male perspectives on issues of gender equality”. Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Bucknell University, Prof. Linden Lewis is to deliver the main address.
