UWIHARP
The UWI HIV/AIDS Response Programme (UWIHARP) has received the sum of J$200,000 from The City of Kingston Credit Union (COK), towards the Introduction and Piloting of Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) on the Mona Campus in 2006. Voluntary Counselling and Testing is a prevention strategy used to educate persons about HIV while helping persons to find out about their HIV status. This in turn leads to better control of the HIV epidemic. UWIHARP intends to introduce the programme in collaboration with the University Health Centre. The launch of a VCT Programme will involve education of students and staff about HIV, telling them about VCT and what it means for healthy living and providing pre and post test counselling to all persons who come forward for testing.
