New Principal for Mona Campus
UWI Chancellor, Sir George Alleyne and University Council and Senate are expected to convene a committee swiftly to search for a new Principal of the Mona Campus to replace outgoing Principal, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor the Hon. Kenneth Hall, who has been appointed Governor General of Jamaica. In a statement issued on Tuesday, UWI Vice Chancellor, Professor E. Nigel Harris welcomed the naming of Professor Hall as Governor General, and said he was richly deserving of this high office. The Vice Chancellor said that Professor Hall has provided outstanding leadership of the UWI, Mona Campus since his appointment as Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal in October 1996. He said that Professor Hall had led the drive by the Mona Campus to reposition itself as an entity that understands and is assuming its role as an integral part of the premier regional institution dedicated to higher learning. Professor Harris added that under Professor Hall’s management, the Campus has transformed itself academically and administratively to create the human and technological capacities necessary for the training of students to compete in new, ever changing, globalized, knowledge-based economies. An interim Principal for the Mona Campus will shortly be announced.
