The 2006 Pelican Awards for Distinguished Graduates of the University of the West Indies will be presented at the Annual Commemoration Concert and Pelican Awards Ceremony on Sunday, February 19 at the Assembly Hall on the UWI Mona Campus, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The awards will be presented during the UWI’s Annual Commemoration and Alumni Week Celebrations, which take place over the period February 16 – 24. The 2006 Pelican Awardees are Dr. Renn Holness, Professor Errol Miller and Dr. Alfred Sangster. The Commemoration Week activities begin with a Flag Raising Ceremony and University Parade on Thursday, February 16 and continue on Friday, February 17 with Caribbean Day, when nationals of the 15 countries which contribute to the UWI will mount displays on the life and cultural of the respective state. Other activities include a Track Meet on Saturday, February 18 and the Commemoration Service on Sunday February 19. The week ends on Friday, February 24 with a Dinner at the Mona Visitors Lodge and Conference Centre. The keynote address will be delivered by Governor General Designate, Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal of the UWI Mona Campus, Professor Kenneth Hall.
