UWI Honours Professor Errol Miller
The Institute of Education in collaboration with the Faculty of Humanities and Education, UWI recently hosted a farewell luncheon in honour of Professor the Hon. Errol Miller who has retired from the UWI after over twenty-five years of service.
Minister of Education Youth and Culture the Hon. Maxine Henry Wilson who gave the address described him as an “academic and role model.” She spoke of his “generosity of spirit and his willingness to share his knowledge with others.” Vice Chancellor Emeritus Professor the Hon. Rex Nettleford described Professor Miller as a ”visionary” and said that “any position he held, he always found answers to any challenge that arose in that field.” Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Education, Professor Aggrey Brown in his tribute lauded Professor Miller’s contribution to “all important agencies of education in Jamaica and the Caribbean, as well as globally.” He said that his association with and contribution to education have led to well deserved accolades including being the first recipient of the UWI’s Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence and the globally prestigious Albert Shanker Education Award of Brussells-based Educational International.. Tributes were also paid to him by Professor Hyacinth Evans on behalf of the Institute of Education Mr. Ruel Reid, Jamaica Teachers Association and Dr. Cecile Walden, Dean of Teachers’ College Principal.
